well, good morning.
“I knew at least twenty people working mundane jobs, when they had talent that could easily shape the contemporary art world. People suffocated and pushed back by what was in demand, or what was considered good, when it clearly wasn’t. Thousands of examples of art, cinema and literature only good enough to start a bonfire, while earth-shattering minds sat behind a tempered glass in a bank; jazz-musicians waiting to happen and they had never touched an instrument; singers who only got to move shower curtains, poets who turned cards on blackjack tables. The sad part was, maybe, just maybe, Mya was right, and there wasn’t enough room for everybody. But what other way was there? And more importantly, if the bonfire creators managed to create room for themselves, who are we not to try and do that for ourselves?”
“...To Gertrude Stein my life into meaning, Gustav.”

Found this in basket of used books a few steps from Les Halles and I loved the cover so much, I had to buy it without even looking at the blurb. Turns out, Perry Mason has existed long before me or HBO discovered him, and even though written in 1957 (the print is from 1970), the writing style cannot be further from dated. One of those light-hearted detective stories with recurring characters (Perry Mason is a lawyer though), that immerse you inside from page one, and an awesome afternoon read.
i woke up with what i’m guessing was an insect bite under my left eye, which was a huge and obscene invasion and intrusion on my property and i hope the cats ate it. this led to the most elaborate makeup application in weeks for the sheer reason of me sitting at home and not looking at said intrusion every time i walk past a mirror, which in turn reminded me how awesome #makeup is in general. also, my face is gradually accepting the fact that my age begins with a 3, and whatever it is that aging does to my eyebrows, i certainly can’t complain about it.
“Montmartre was getting busier, even with the cold weather creeping in. I mused over a thing J.D. Salinger said about poets: they take the weather too personally. And there were at least fifty poets downstairs, at that very moment, taking the weather personally while I was thinking about Salinger.”
